This guide is for anyone who bought Shadowrocket on iPhone and wants to use it on iPad. First, check the Apple Account used for the App Store purchase, then download the app from your purchase history. Next, transfer connection details and .conf files separately, and check Home, Config, and Settings in landscape and any available split-screen layout. Restoring your purchase does not restore local data, so check your current configuration, Global Routing, and VPN authorization after installation.
1. Check your account and the app before restoring your purchase
The first thing to check is the Apple Account used for the purchase—not whether both devices have the same device name. Shadowrocket is a paid client for Apple platforms and is available exclusively from the App Store. If you bought it on iPhone, check that the App Store account on your iPad matches the account associated with the original purchase. See the App Store listing for compatibility and system requirements.
Check the account used for purchases, not just your iCloud sign-in. On iPad, open Settings → Apple Account → Media & Purchases and check the account used for media and purchases. You can also confirm it on your App Store account page. Your iCloud account and purchase account may differ, so synced photos do not prove that the app purchase is associated with the current store account.
Use the product page to verify the app's identity. The developer is Shadow Launch Technology Limited, and the app ID is 932747118. For the official icon, refer to the app verification page. Shadowrocket is a one-time purchase; buying the client does not include a service plan. This site does not provide, sell, or recommend nodes or subscriptions. The steps below assume you already have your own configuration.
2. Redownload Shadowrocket from the App Store on iPad
Redownload purchased apps through the App Store; there is no need to look for a purchase restoration button inside Shadowrocket. The steps below use English interface labels. Depending on your system version, the account page may show Apps or Purchased; use the options displayed on your device.
-
Confirm the purchase account
Open the App Store and go to your account page. Confirm that you’re signed in with the Apple Account you used to buy Shadowrocket. If you’re not sure, check the original purchase receipt rather than relying on the account avatar.
-
Open your purchased apps
Go to App Store → account avatar → Apps → My Apps. On earlier system versions, the corresponding option may be called Purchased. Search for Shadowrocket, or check the Not on this iPad section.
-
Verify the app
Open the matching product page and check the developer, Shadow Launch Technology Limited, the official icon, and app ID 932747118. Don’t rely on the name or icon color in search results alone.
-
Redownload the app
Once the product page shows the redownload button, tap it and follow any authentication prompts. If the page still shows a price, stop and check the account and purchase history. Paying again is not a required step to restore a purchase.
-
Check the app on first launch
Open Shadowrocket and check the content in Home and Config. The first time you enable a connection, read the system prompt to add a VPN configuration and complete authorization as required. A successful installation does not mean a connection has been established.
3. Troubleshoot missing apps in your purchase history
If the app is missing from your purchase history, check the account and list filters first, then look for hidden purchases and check the store region. A failed network connection, an unresponsive download button, and a missing purchase record are different issues and need separate troubleshooting. Reinstalling repeatedly will not add a purchase associated with another account.
| What you see | Check first | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| The product page still shows a price | The account under Media & Purchases and the original purchase receipt | Confirm which account owns the purchase, then return to the same product page |
| The app doesn’t appear in search results | Whether you’re viewing only part of the list or have hidden the purchase | View the full app list and check Hidden Purchases in account settings |
| The download button is there, but the download won’t complete | Available storage, network connection, and App Store authentication prompts | Resolve any system prompts first, then retry from the same product page |
| The store says the app isn’t available in your region | Your current App Store region and the product page’s availability | Follow the App Store prompt, keep your receipt, and use Apple’s purchase support options |
Bottom line: verify the purchase account before troubleshooting the download
If the same product page still shows a price, use your receipt to check the purchase account. If it shows a redownload button, focus instead on system prompts, network access, and available storage. Treat these as separate issues.
Deleting the app should not be your first troubleshooting step. If your iPad has a local configuration, keep a recoverable copy first. Deleting and reinstalling may add transfer work, and it won’t fix an account mismatch or store availability issue. Always refer to the App Store listing for system requirements and purchase eligibility.
4. Find features in landscape and Split View by checking the available width
Landscape changes the available display space; it doesn’t replace Home, Config, and Settings with a different configuration system. Use Home to check connection entries and the current connection status, Config to manage rule configurations, and Settings to adjust app preferences. When switching from iPhone, look for the same section names rather than relying on button positions.
Don’t assume that landscape automatically means a fixed two-column layout. The placement of lists, details, and navigation varies with the app interface, system version, and window width. When the device and system allow split-screen or window resizing, a narrow window may offer less usable width than a full-screen portrait view. Use the checks below; iPad layouts do not all have the same sidebar.
- Full-screen portrait: Check whether you’re in Home, Config, or Settings, then open the relevant list item. Long names may require opening the details to see the full value.
- Full-screen landscape: Use the wider content area to inspect addresses, ports, and rule text. Open the edit screen to verify complete fields; don’t rely on truncated list entries.
- Split View or a narrow window: First check whether the app and system currently support the layout. If the toolbar is collapsed or the list is narrow, widen the window before looking for the edit option. A changed layout doesn’t mean the configuration has disappeared.
- When the keyboard is open: Dismiss it before saving and confirm the save has completed. Rotating the screen does not submit your edits.
When checking the layout, change only the window—not network settings. Select the same connection in Home, switch between landscape and portrait, and check that the selection and status remain consistent. Then open Config and verify the file in use. This helps distinguish a change in screen layout from a change in the active configuration.
5. Transfer connection details and .conf files separately
Keep the working configuration on your iPhone before transferring a copy to your iPad. Connection details include the protocol, server address, port, and authentication fields. A .conf file mainly contains routing rules and related behavior. They serve different purposes: transferring a rule file alone may not restore connection details, and adding a subscription does not mean the original rules have been transferred.
- Record the current setup: On your iPhone, note the selected item and Global Routing in Home, and the file currently in use in Config. Keep passwords and keys only in a location you control.
- Import existing connections: If you already use a subscription, go to Home → “+” → Type → Subscribe on your iPad, enter your own existing subscription, and save it. Then update that subscription from Home. Check that the entries appear after updating; a successful save alone does not confirm the transfer is complete.
- Transfer a copy of your configuration: Send your existing .conf file to your iPad using Files or AirDrop under your control, then share it with Shadowrocket through the system share sheet. If the current interface offers a file import option, you can select the file there instead.
- Check the active configuration: Open Config to confirm that the file was imported and selected. Check that any policy or connection names referenced by the rules exist on your iPad; if a name has changed, update the reference.
- Check credentials individually: When setting up a connection manually, compare the protocol, port, password or key, and relevant transport fields with your original record. Fields differ between protocols; copying only the address and port is not enough.
After updating a subscription, check the currently selected item again. An update may change the entries or their names, so return to Home to confirm the selected connection is still there, then check related references in Config. Subscription URLs may contain access credentials; don’t include the full URL in public screenshots or support requests.
6. Check Global Routing and On Demand after transferring your setup
Check whether the connection works with the current Global Routing setting in mind. For the first check after transferring your setup, use Config after verifying the rule file. Temporarily switch to another mode only if you need to troubleshoot, and restore the original setting when finished. The comparison below covers the purpose of Shadowrocket’s own settings; a single connection test is not a performance assessment.
Config
RecommendedTraffic is handled according to the rules in the current configuration. Check the active file, rule order, and policy references before assessing the transfer. Config does not simply send all unmatched traffic directly; the final behavior also depends on settings such as FINAL.
Best for: restoring everyday rule-based routing after checking the original configuration
Proxy
Uses the proxy path as the primary route, which can help distinguish connection issues from rule-matching issues. This does not reproduce your original routing behavior or guarantee that all system traffic will use the same path.
Best for: briefly investigating differences between the selected connection and rule behavior
Direct
Uses a direct connection and can help confirm that the underlying network is working. Being able to open a page under Direct does not prove that the proxy connection’s authentication or transport settings are correct.
Best for: establishing a baseline and ruling out local network issues
If your original configuration uses Scene, check that its associated settings have also been transferred; copying the scene name alone is not enough. Verify the actual selections against the current interface and configuration. Scene is not part of purchase restoration and does not replace checking the active connection and rule file.
Check On Demand after verifying the basic connection. Go to Settings → On Demand and review the current toggle and existing conditions, especially settings related to Wi-Fi names and network types. Your iPad may be connected to a different network than your iPhone. A Wi-Fi-only device also cannot follow expectations that depend on a cellular connection.
- Test manually first: Note the current On Demand state. If needed, turn it off temporarily and connect manually. Check the Home status and actual access, then restore the automatic connection conditions one at a time.
- Then test network switching: Switch only between networks supported by your device and observe whether the existing conditions trigger. Don’t change the connection and rule file at the same time.
- Record the specific issue: Distinguish between “can’t add VPN configuration,” “can’t access anything after connecting,” and “issues occur only on a particular Wi-Fi network.” Note the Global Routing setting and active configuration name at the time.
- Keep a fallback copy: Wait until the iPad works as expected before cleaning up duplicate entries. Keep the original iPhone configuration and transfer files until verification is complete.
After these checks, purchase restoration, configuration transfer, and window layout can be verified separately: the App Store provides the app, Home and Config manage the current connection and rules, and landscape or Split View changes only the available workspace. When something goes wrong, troubleshoot the relevant layer rather than resetting everything at once.
